Build More Schools????????

I just got done reading the Evansville Review article on the school boards progress on this building study. I hope everyone See's what it is saying.

First of all I guess the maintenance that our schools get needs to be better. Second the study says how many more rooms are needed and square feet that the Plunket study says we need. Third of all the new high school was just built how many years ago and they did not have the ADA issued taken care of.

On the first subject maintenance. One would think that any issues of replacing windows, furnace's, roofs and etc. would be a ongoing item in a budget. It seems that if you want to keep a building going you have to preform day to day and year to year maintenance. I think some of this is being done but, some of the big ticket items have not been budgeted and or approved for.

Some of these buildings have been here since my dad went to high school and he is 80 years old now. How do you think these buildings kept going. They took care of them.

Second subject on the Plunkett study. It's a study first of all. You mean to tell me that the staff can't decide how much square feet is needed. It appears they seem to have got along good so far. It is like someone telling me that based on my family needs I would have to have a house that was so many square feet. I think I can do that. I don't need to have the average of some other houses to decide what I needed. I guess I would say that if rooms are needed add them on. I don't think we need to spend millions of dollars on a entire building.

What is with this ADA thing at the middle school. They have an elevator and ramps that was added several years ago. I don't understand what that means. Now, they tell us the High School does not meet all the ADA requirements. Who is suppose to make sure these things are done. This school was just built a few years ago for how many million.

I hope everyone goes to the Board meeting next Monday and we get some answers and different options that what has been put out there so far. I see no option of adding on some class rooms.

I am sorry this is nothing more than a 'ploy' by Heidi Carvin to push towards a ref. She is the biggest liar, deceitful person I have run across in a long time. They need to fire her ass. When they do finally get rid of her, it will take whom ever replaces her years to clean up the mess she has made. ( kind of like when we finally get rid of bush). There is plenty of space at the school they just don't use it well at all. The repairs should be a on going thing and then it would not feel like such a slap in the face, what do our maintence crew do all day, and during summer months. I was at a basketball game a month ago and a teacher was sitting behind us and as talking to someone who had asked about the space issue. The TEACHERS comment was she did not see there being a space issue. Heidi complains about a space issue, but wants to add a freakin 4k program to the mix, is she out of her mind? Even Art at one of the last school board meetings when this company was presenting its plan, asked three quick questions and basicaly blew them out of the water. They and Heidi had egg on her face. See what happens with Heidi Carvin is she stays in a job long enough until the school board catches on to how she does 'not' do her job and then she leaves before they can fire her just like in Verona. She is incompetant.

We had what we called "mobiles" essentially semi permanent mobile homes set up as class rooms. It was actually kind of nice to take a walk outside to your class. I don't understand why something like that can't be used here at least until we pay off the 2 school bonds.
There is NO WAY the taxpayers can afford to pay for an additional school or even an addition to the existing ones at this point.

The thing is, is there are other options to create more space.
1. Just changeing some of the class rooms around, some of the rooms at the T.R.I.S. building are big enough they could be divided into two.
2. Those rooms they use for 'copy' rooms, which aren't all that small could be used for the speech classes, they don't need a entire classroom as they are small groups at a time.
3. MOVE the district offices, the basement of the grange mall would be a good place, sorry these places only have leases, and the school dist. could use the space and pay the owner of the building more than these places do. Not only that there are plenty of spaces on mainstreet for these business's to go to. The main street area is starting to look scrawny, with the restaurant gone, the movie store for sale. OR they could go into the building that used to be the old ace building.
4. I am not a monster, but the Head Start classroom takes up I think tow rooms, that are put together, when my kids went to headstart they rented out the basement of a church during the week and could probably do it alot cheaper than what the school charges them.
5. School administration and staff have to realize to that its ok to have tight fit, it may not be fun but its do able.
How many people out there had to share a bedroom with a sibling, not fun but you lived, and these classrooms are alot bigger.

Heidi wants to spend money because she wants new pretty schools.

I don't think it has to do with Heidi wanting pretty new schools. I think she wants the MONEY.
Did nayone out there attend those citiznes budget committees? Didn't they say that the more debt, the more money you get?

So she is trying to make things worse instead of better. I thought so to. I think its interesting how one of her big arguements for wanting the 4k was how much they would get per student in funding. What she failed to mention in that same breath is that there is another program they have that they implemented predicting how much they would receive from the gov per student, and they did not get what they thought they would and it left them very short. So what does she do turns around and wants to put in another program that there is no guarantee as to how much they will get. The other thing is for kids with special needs they get the same amount of money from the gov, for each child with special needs as they do for any other child, THEN they get extra money for all the kids with special needs, like twice the normal rate of a main stream child. So each special needs child brings the school twice what the average child does, if not a little more. One would think ok, yes they need that money to offer services. But they offer as few services as possible to these kids, I think they do that trying to make money off this program as well. The Evansville School district is one of the worst for offering needed services to kids with special needs. As little as possible is there motto, . Parents have to fight for everything there kids get. People need to be aware that they have to advocate for their kids because the school won't . Don't ever assume they will it would be a huge mistake. Check out all the complaints on the D.P.I. website, and that does not include more recent ones that have been filed againest the Evansville school district. The director of pupil services is awful, her name is Krista Jones and she is not to be trusted with anyone's childs needs. she is also Heidi's right hand what ever..

I have heard this about the Evansville school district as well. My neighbor moved here about 6 monthts ago and the Evansville School district told her that her daughter did not qualify for physical therapy or occupational therapy even though she received it at her old school. Excuse me, did she recover over night, I think not. I refered her to a couple outside agency's that are helping her put Evansville School district in there place.
